Cochins were first imported to America and England in 1845. The large Standard Cochins are truly awesome birds. and are very easy to tame. There are many color varieties of Cochins; Brown, Barred, Black, Buff, Golden-Laced, Partridge, Silver-Laced, and White.
Cochins are one of the largest chicken breeds, a full grown cock can reach 11 pounds, with the hens reaching 8 1/2 pounds. With their thick fluffy plumage, and a great abundance of down fiber in the under-fluff the birds look even larger than they actually are. Their skin is yellow and they lay a brown egg. Although bred mostly for exhibition, they make a good meat bird. Cochins are usually very calm birds and easily made into pets. They are also excellent broodies
